14 days till showtime!
Ok guys - I just took this pic this morning after cardio and no food...a little depleted of course and no pump - I think my shape came a long way..but I need to tighten up another 5-6 pounds to get my Bf where I wanted to be before I start carb depleting the week before the contest.
My weight is at around 211-212 right now and its dropping rather fast..I will not be suprised if I end up under 200!..I dont have a weight class requirement since I compete in the Open Pro Division..so that doesnt matter. Its all about being hard as nailz and keeping my muscle as full as possible.
I am feeling super confident that I can pull this off and I am ready for battle!

Back to "Mentzer's Diet"...6 weeks out from MM2010
I been going tru hell for the past week or so with my diet being so low and carbs and it's been killing me! My cardio is super high and my carbs are under 50 grams per day! This has helped me to get rid of some fat in the first stages of my prep but I am getting the feeling its costing me muscle mass and I also am noticing my core temperature dropping. I always feel cold and that's a sign of my metabolism slowing down.
So I was "digging" around in some of my old training files back from 2001 (contest prep for MM) and came across some interesting data that I documented for myself and my Member section back then...
I came across diet logs that indicated my exact strategy back then and guess what?..somewhere around the same time out I experienced the same problem with the low carbs...and I ended up changing it to what seemed to be "ALL" carbs for a while and it worked!
Now thinking back at it...Mike was training me in prep for the Mr.Los Angeles back in the 90's and kept telling me NOT to lower my carbs AT NO COST. This was right around the time when the whole "low carb era" began and everyone was on a non carbohydrate diet, Atkins..Parillo..etc.
Mike was totally against it and I remember him telling me to just watch my caloric intake and cut my PROTEIN down to around 120 grams per day (that's not per meal..lol) . He insisted on me eating almost nothing but carbs for the remainder calories (which only were around 1400...oops) - leaving me with 250-300 grams of complex carbs (rice,oats..yams).
So there was little fat (maybe 30grams per day) a high carb intake (in relationship to caloric intake that is) and almost no freaking protein! (sorry Supplement companies...lol)
The result...my legs and abs started to get lines and veins popping out that I have never seen before. I still remember video taping my legs full of veins sitting in my office chair (which was a closed turned into office due to my studio appartment..lol) while chewing on a yam and feeling good...I will look for the footage, if I find it, I will def post it.
So here we go...6 weeks out and I am going MENTZER STYLE!...I think Mike turned in his crave a little and send some angel to tap on my shoulder when he read my low carb blog...lets see what happens next! (note:I would believe in that if I wouldn't be an atheist...but it sounded cool so I said it..lol)

7 Weeks out Pic...
Not exaclty a great shot but I thought I share it anyway. I just finished a Chest/Shoulder and Triceps workout here at Anytime Fitness after I got back from this years LAS VEGAS BIKE FEST. Damn..so much temptations down there!...lots of food and Beer everywhere..lol
My preparation was very hard this week. I stepped up my cardio to 2 hours...YES 2 hours! a day...splitting it up to one hour in the AM and 1 hour PM. I been feeling kinda dizzy with the low carbs so I upped them a little bit by adding some oatmeal to my first meal of the day which helps a lot to get tru the morning "grind" (usually train about 4-6 clients in the morning)
I will continue to do the high cardio and carb cycle till I start looking the way I should. I am making some incredible progress with it..I can literally see changes on a daily basis!
Looks like the game is ON!

New Progress Pic - 10 Weeks out
I know its not exaclty a "glamour shot" - lol - but I did not have anyone to take pics of me, so I just used my HTC cam again and came up with this "classic" in the mirror shot...lol
I been making some good progress but wrecked it this last weekend and had a few drinks - yep..I DID! - Its all good. I will PUNISH myself even harder this week for it and increase my cardio by another 30 mins per day!
My weight however dropped a lot since last week. I am down now to 224...which is a over a 6 pound drop in 1 week! - I feel like am I holding my size well but just dropping a ton of water.
10 weeks to go ...ready to kick into next gear!

Diet and Training Cycle (11 Weeks out)
So I came up with a smarter way to cycle and arrange my diet and training days in order to deal with the low carb approach. Training on low carbs is def no joke and not very wise. I think I came up with an ideal schedule for me to work around this dilemma.
Here is my weekly routine as of 11 weeks out: (this will change as I get closer to show if needed)
I noticed that I have my best workouts the day after I had some carbs. So its not the day off eating carbs but after I spend a whole day loading them. However, the high carbs def put a stop to my fat-loss and so I needed to figure out a way to arrange my workouts around it.
My Diet:
Sunday: High Carbs/Moderate Protein/Very Low fat
Monday-Wednesday: Low Carbs/High Protein/High Fat
Thursday:High Carbs/Moderate Protein/Very low fat
Friday&Saturday: Low Carbs/High Protein/High Fat
My Training :(to take advandage of the carb load)
Monday: Back&Biceps (No cardio)
Tuesday-Wednesday (Cardio 2x per day!)
Wednesday: I decided to HIT some LEGS here even on low carbs. I am not worried about building much muscle on my legs . My quads are big enough. So I just train them to help increase the fat burning process. Leg workouts are KILLER and will cause a higher metabolic response in regards to fat burning.
Thursday: (Cardio 2x per day)
Friday: Chest/Shoulders and Triceps (No cardio)
Saturday: (Cardio 2 per day)
Sunday: REST (if GOD rested on the 7th day so will I..LOL)
So I hope this schedule is not too complicated for you all to read..lol. I started this cycle monday and am already seeing some HUGE improvements. More pics and Video clips this weekend..stay tuned!

Minor change in training frequency...
I started to train on a 4 day a week training schedule 2 weeks ago. The reason for that rather "high" frequency was to be able to isolate my back training day from all the others.
I am now starting to realize that it might've been a mistake to do so. I guess I was bit by the "volume bug" there for a little ..even happens to me..lol - not realizing that I just violated the law of SYSTEMIC RECOVERY by training on consecutive days. In other words, your body needs to not only recover from specific muscles being trained (7+days) but also needs its entire SYSTEM to recover after a high intense training bout.
I might've been able to get away with a 4 days split if I had enough calories and if my workloads would not have been as high as they are right now (more weight=more inroading) - so this might've worked through the beginning stages of mine or any HIT routine..but I seem to forget that I am a veteran at this, and am able to train with intensity levels that just simply drain my recovery system to much in order to train that frequent.
So I will restart my training Monday to fully recover and continue to train only every other day and if needed only every 3rd day as my training log will allow me (no gains in weight or reps=insert extra rest days!)
I hope my mistake can teach you all a lesson too..lol

check out this wicked back shot taken by my friend Kini Kim just a few minutes ago during my back workout...whole workout took around 18mins!

Ok..here are some first shots...check out the progress already!
Ok guys, here are the first images of me all the way out, still 13 weeks away from MUSCLEMANIA 2010 here in Vegas!
The 2 shots were taken about 3 weeks apart. The "FAT SHOT" was taken August1st right here in my bathroom at home. The second shot is at the gyms bathroom (I love bathroom lighting..lol) about an hour ago. What a difference even if not taken at the same location!..its obvious that my "non drinking" and dieting has paid off so far!
FAT SHOT (how embarrasing!)
